Events encouraged to be submitted are art openings, dance concerts, open mic events, cultural lectures. Events not allowed on the calendar are, political fundraisers, city meetings and daily specials from restaurants.

These leaders have dedicated themselves to making positive change in our community through activism, preserving history, fighting for accessible education, connecting community members with resources and engaging in volunteer work. The community leaders featured in this project include: Gladys Lebrón-Martínez, María Salgado-Cartagena, Marisela Alvarado, Marisol Fontánez Cuadrado, and Yamaris Rivera. After its debut at Wistariahurst, Matria will move in Spring 2025 to Holyoke’s Puerto Rican Cultural District on Main Street, inviting an even broader audience to witness and celebrate these women's journeys. Considering the deconstruction and consumption of the body, absurd actions surprise and set the tone for the examination of our roles within gendered labor, sexuality, and domestic space. Humor tempers the seriousness of these topics to avoid confrontation at the dinner table. Sheryl Anaya is a queer Puerto Rican artist and educator based in Fort Worth, Texas.
