MATRIA is a photo series that uplifts the stories of five Puerto Rican women that have made significant contributions in Holyoke. These leaders have dedicated themselves to making positive change in our community through activism, preserving history, fighting for accessible education, connecting community members with resources and engaging in volunteer work. The community leaders featured in this project include: Gladys Lebrón-Martínez, María Salgado-Cartagena, Marisela Alvarado, Marisol Fontánez Cuadrado, and Yamaris Rivera. ABSURD APPETITES (TABLES FOR TWO) January 21 - March 13, 2025 Absurd Appetites distorts the norms of a typical dining experience. Considering the deconstruction and consumption of the body, absurd actions surprise and set the tone for the examination of our roles within gendered labor, sexuality, and domestic space. Humor tempers the seriousness of these topics to avoid confrontation at the dinner table. Sheryl Anaya is a queer Puerto Rican artist and educator based in Fort Worth, Texas. She received a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art with an emphasis in Sculpture from Texas Christian University in 2023 and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Woman’s University in 2013. Come find out why "The Paper City" should instead be called "The Water City." Topography and the Connecticut River’s character gave rise to a prosperous city in the late 19th and early 20th century. Even today, water continues to power Holyoke. Come enjoy the story of ingenuity and vision in the making of the dynamic city of Holyoke. Program takes place inside the Visitor Center utilizing exhibits and visuals. By the end, you may be convinced! All programs are free. Wheelchair accessible.

Polish and Eastern European Family Crafting

Holyoke Heritage State Park 221 Appleton St, Holyoke, MA

Practice Polish and Eastern European crafts as the New Roots in Riverbanks exhibit wraps up. Make and take paper cutting designs, paper doll costumes, pysanki egg coloring sheets, and your paper family tree. Get a prize for completing the scavenger hunt. Stay awhile, or briefly. Sponsored and led by the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association museum educators. Fun for the family, ages 3 and up. Meet at the visitor center. This and all programs at the visitor center are free. Consecration of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church’s historic “Christ the King” Chapel

The Right Reverend Douglas Fisher, Bishop of the Diocese of Western Massachusetts will celebrate the Evensong service and consecration of "Christ the King" Chapel at 5pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 485 Appleton Street, Holyoke.  The Chapel will be dedicated in loving memory of The Reverend Deacon Mary H. Gannaway Sabbs.  Reverend Sabbs was the first Deacon in the history of St. Paul's Church and the first Black female Deacon in the Diocese of Western Massachusetts.  She co-founded and led the Hispanic Ministry at St. Paul's until her passing in 2003.  This vibrant ministry continues to this day led by The Rev.
