Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow – Wistariahurst Exhibit

Gallery hours are Mondays 10:30am-12:30am and Tuesdays 4:30pm-6:30pm For the month of February Wistariahurst Museum and Garden will display a poster exhibition entitled Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow organized and distributed by the New-York Historical Society Museum and Library with lead support for this traveling exhibition provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the human endeavor. Black Americans gained monumental new liberties after the Civil War and the end of slavery. The era known as Reconstruction brought freedom, citizenship, and, for men, the right to vote. Amherst College LitFest

From Feb. 23-26, Amherst College will host the eighth annual LitFest, a literary festival celebrating fiction, nonfiction, poetry and spoken-word performance, along with the College’s extraordinary literary life. This year’s lineup includes Pulitzer Prize winner Hilton Als, MacArthur Fellowship winner Valeria Luiselli, and 2022 National Book Award finalists Meghan O’Rourke and Ingrid Rojas Contreras, among others.

The annual Holyoke Community College Jazz Festival returns for its 24th year on March 3 with bass player Avery Sharpe joining the Amherst Jazz Orchestra and members of the HCC jazz faculty for a big band concert. The show will begin at 8 p.m. in HCC's Leslie Phillips Theater in the Fine & Performing Arts building on the main HCC campus, 303 Homestead Ave. The concert is free for HCC students, faculty and staff, and $10 for the general public. Holyoke Farmers’ Market is on every First and Third Saturday from 10am – 2pm on 310 Appleton Street. The winter market begins December 10th and continues to March 18th. The Holyoke Farmers’ Market accepts SNAP and HIP. Spanish interpreter and translations available at every market. The market is co-organized by it’s partners which include the Holyoke Greater Chamber of Commerce, Holyoke Health Center, Mass in Motion, 5210, and the Holyoke Food & Equity Collective.
