Holyoke’s canals were the key to this planned industrial city.  Paper and textile mills set up shop as soon as sections were completed to reap the waterpower the canals provided. Learn how the waterways were constructed, how they work, and tour parts of first and second level canals. End up at the Robert E. Barrett Fishway. There you will receive a guided tour of HG&E’s powerhouse and the fishway where you can see the fishlift in operation and observe fish that have been transported over the dam. Limit 15 people. FREE Walking Tour of Holyoke’s Historic Oak Street

Join Bob Comeau as he takes us down a three-mile memory lane on Holyoke's historic Oak Street. Learn about the the history of Avery Field and its surrounding land. Enjoy walking along Oak Street as he takes you on a journey learning about the area's history, the homes and some of the early and important residents. Dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes. Be prepared to be on your feet for at least 2 hours.
