Mountain Park: Holyoke’s Beloved Amusement Park, Now on Display

Join the unveiling celebration of a scale model of Mountain Park. Residents and visitors of all ages are invited to help inaugurate a new permanent exhibit at the Holyoke Heritage State Park Visitor Center.  This open-house style event will take place on October 1, 2022, from 1:00 to 3:00pm in the lobby of the Visitor Center. Stop by the Visitor Center to try your hand at making a piece of homemade paper.  Holyoke was home to many paper mills, manufacturing quality paper for worldwide distribution. This earned Holyoke's nickname of "The Paper City." Kids and adults will enjoy getting your hands wet to make a special piece of paper to take home with you. FREE Ashley Reservoir Walking/Bicycle Tour

Join Bob Comeau as he takes us on a 4-mile tour of Ashley Pond Reservoir. Get your exercise steps in as you see the Ashley Reservoir dam, an earthen fill dam with a total height of 12 feet and an approximate length of 640 feet. The dam is classified by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) as an Intermediate size structure and a Significant (Class II) hazard dam. This free event will feature a little something for the entire family! A bold and breathtaking exhibition featuring the work of Anthony Melting Tallow, Bo’taan’niis, (Flying Chief) will open on October 6, 2022 at the Wistariahurst Museum. A member of the Blackfoot nation and proud Two Spirit, Aya’kii’kas’si, (Walks A Journey Between), Melting Tallow’s work addresses land dispossession, residential school inter-generational trauma, reframing indigenous voices, misappropriation of native imagery, and violence against indigenous women. Most importantly, Melting Tallow’s work represents hope. Accompanying Melting Tallow’s stunning visionary artwork is an installation embodying the memory of those lost to violence. Holyoke History Tour

Converting the power of falling water to usable energy takes age-old technology. It’s what birthed Holyoke, and continues to power the city to this day.  An introduction to waterpower and the vision of Holyoke’s founders begins in the Holyoke Heritage State Park Visitor Center. The tour continues outside as we walk along the canals and view revitalized mills. All children must be accompanied by an adult. For more information call Nancy at 413-534-1723.

Whiting Street Reservoir Walking Tour

This 5th annual tour of the reservoir is free and open to the public. Meet at the top of the Mountain Park Access Road in Holyoke. Be able to walk 4 miles and bring some bug spray. Sign up at eventbrite.
