Holyoke Community Cookbook: Sharing Recipes, Stories & Strength

The cookbooks will be given out at upcoming community events in Holyoke, as supplies last, with a suggested donation of $10.
The Holyoke Community Cookbook is now available!
The Holyoke Community Cookbook Project was launched in 2023 to build towards greater community resilience, health equity, and food justice through the creation of a community cookbook. It explores questions like “what does food mean to you?” and “how does food make our community stronger?”
In the process of creating the cookbook, residents and organizations came together for free community cooking classes, trips to the farmers’ market, food demonstrations, and food access initiatives and celebrations. Together, we shared insights on how to use the Healthy Incentive Program (HIP) benefits, explored rising food costs and the impacts on families, discussed what it will take to create equitable access to food in Holyoke, told stories, tasted recipes, and celebrated the way food continues to bring us together.
After over a year of collaboration, the cookbook was released this summer! It is filled with family recipes from the Holyoke community, art and stories about culture and community, and guidance on local food resources and community food initiatives.
Where can I get a copy of the cookbook?
The cookbooks will be given out at upcoming community events in Holyoke, as supplies last, with a suggested donation of $10. There will also be hard copies at the public library and at community organizations throughout Holyoke to read and borrow. PDF versions of the cookbook can also be downloaded below in English and Spanish.
The hope is that the Holyoke Community Cookbook project is just the beginning – we hope you continue these conversations, draw from these resources, make new connections, and pass on these recipes as part of many more meals together!
Stay tuned for more events throughout this summer with cooking demonstrations using the cookbook’s recipes.
