The Holyoke 150th Commemorative Book
This unique colorful book includes our Holyoke history, the City Hall dedication, all community events throughout the year, and highlights the Masquerade Ball and the closing of the Time Capsule in December.
The Explore Holyoke community calendar highlights the arts and cultural events throughout the city to help plan your visit. You are invited to submit your event. Events encouraged to be submitted are art openings, dance concerts, open mic events, cultural lectures. Events not allowed on the calendar are, political fundraisers, city meetings and daily specials from restaurants.
Laurence Cotton will give a visual tour of “Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., as well as his two sons and the Olmsted Bros. landscape architecture firm, as the footprint of their works literally stretch across the entire continent of North America, with something of a focus on New England, in particular Massachusetts.
The Olmsted firm worked on over 20 projects in the city of Holyoke.
Laurence Cotton is a practicing public historian, and writer/producer of historical films for PBS including “Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America”. He was trained as a cultural anthropologist and brings that lens to bear on much of his work. His visit to Holyoke will be one of his many stops on his 2022 tour of the U.S. to present programs about the Olmsted legacy.
