January 25, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Right Reverend Douglas Fisher, Bishop of the Diocese of Western Massachusetts will celebrate the Evensong service and consecration of “Christ the King” Chapel at 5pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 485 Appleton Street, Holyoke.  The Chapel will be dedicated in loving memory of The Reverend Deacon Mary H. Gannaway Sabbs.  Reverend Sabbs was the first Deacon in the history of St. Paul’s Church and the first Black female Deacon in the Diocese of Western Massachusetts.  She co-founded and led the Hispanic Ministry at St. Paul’s until her passing in 2003.  This vibrant ministry continues to this day led by The Rev. Canon Joel Martinez, the first Black Latino Priest in the history of St. Paul’s Church.  After the service all are invited to enjoy a Latin themed meal prepared by the members of the Hispanic Ministry along with finger sandwiches, beverages, and desserts.  Contact Deacon Sabbs’ daughter Gina Nelson, ginanelson5@gmail.com with any questions.
