SUMMARY:Abstract Revelry: A Visual and Audio Experience
DESCRIPTION:Stop by Wistariahurst Museum throughout February to experience Erika Slocumb’s newest exhibit\, Abstract Revelry. This art exhibit is the first of its kind to be presented in our gallery\, with each artwork being accompanied by pieces of music that inspired each piece. Borne from a discussion about the need for interactive exhibits that can engage multiple senses\, while also making sure to program this exhibit in a way that people with disabilities can also enjoy the full experience. Erika’s artwork is intricate and multidimensional\, making it a unique perspective on how art comes in many forms You will hear artists such as Rihanna and Public Enemy\, with QR Codes available to link you to a playlist that you can listen to while viewing the exhibit. Abstract Revelry: A Visual and Audio Experience hopes to inspire visitors to think differently about art and how it can be experienced! \nWhether you’re an art or music lover\, the Abstract Revelry exhibit will provide a special and inspiring experience that cannot be missed! Open hours for the exhibit will be on Mondays (from 10 am-2 pm) and Tuesdays (from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm) from February 6th-27th\, 2024. Admission to Abstract Revelry is free and open to the public so that all can view this amazing exhibit experience.

SUMMARY:Hues of Holyoke
DESCRIPTION:The Hues of Holyoke \nPaintings of the Holyoke Mills by Lora Barrett \nCelebrating the 150th Anniversary of Holyoke \nWistariahurst Museum \nOpening Reception August 3\, 2023 from 4:30-6:30 pm \npaintings on view August 3-30 \n“The mills of Holyoke are among my favorite subject matter for painting. People may think these buildings are plain and lacking in warmth and color\, but I find them anything but. Quite the contrary\, I find the mills to be stately\, powerful representations of so much of the city’s shared history. \nHave you ever looked at the grandness of our mills? Every time I pass one\, I see something different. It could be the shape of a window\, the color of an entrance\, the slope of the roofline\, or the reflections in the canals.  In painting these simple parts of our city\, I think of the many waves of people who have come here to work in those mills and to make Holyoke their home. There was struggle; there was failure; there was success; there is beauty. ”     \nPlease join us for a display of Lora Barrett’s most recent 2023 Holyoke Mill Paintings. \nPaintings available for purchase.

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening for Carrying Prayer: Reclamation\, Remembrance\, and Honor
DESCRIPTION:A bold and breathtaking exhibition featuring the work of Anthony Melting Tallow\, Bo’taan’niis\, (Flying Chief) will open on October 6\, 2022 at the Wistariahurst Museum. A member of the Blackfoot nation and proud Two Spirit\, Aya’kii’kas’si\, (Walks A Journey Between)\, Melting Tallow’s work addresses land dispossession\, residential school inter-generational trauma\, reframing indigenous voices\, misappropriation of native imagery\, and violence against indigenous women. Most importantly\, Melting Tallow’s work represents hope. \nAccompanying Melting Tallow’s stunning visionary artwork is an installation embodying the memory of those lost to violence. According to the Bureau of Indian Affairs\, there are an estimated 4\,200 missing and murdered investigations that have gone unsolved\, the majority of which involve women. In total\, more than 1.5 million American Indian and Alaska Native women have experienced violence in their lifetime. \nPre-registration is requested.\nCity of Holyoke board of health protocols for COVID 19 will be followed.
