DESCRIPTION:On October 5\, from 12-3 pm at the Print Shop (62 Main Street\, Holyoke)\, artists and writers are invited to create a 24-page comic in 24 hours. Grab a supply kit with drawing materials\, idea worksheets\, and templates. You can work from home or stay and sketch with us. Started by Scott McCloud in 1990\, the challenge is simple: start and finish your comic within 24 hours. No pre-planned plots or character sketches allowed\, and all breaks count! There is no cost to participate; this program is funded in part by a grant from the Holyoke Local Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, a state agency. SUMMARY:Creative Creature Creation
DESCRIPTION:This 90 minute arts class will introduce learners to a number of different approaches to creating all manner of different creative creature creations. Learners will experiment with hand-lettering and calligraphy through introductory techniques\, inking and penciling\, and developing a creative letter-based style of their own design. We’ll play a fun monster mash-up drawing game\, where each participant gets to create their own unique monster using shared\, collaborative ideas to create different monsters and creatures. Finally\, we’ll do some brainstorming and character development to create our own creatures\, be they dragons\, monsters\, or something we haven’t even imagined yet! Templates for this class will be available and each learner will receive a kit of tools and templates\, including character development sheets\, to take home. Advance registration is required. Families are welcome to participate; the class can be taken by all ages but is primarily designed for ages 7 and above. This class and supply kits are available at no cost to participants thanks to a grant from the Holyoke Local Cultural Council\, a program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
