SUMMARY:"Pictorally Speaking" a photography exhibit at Wistariahurst Museum by Charles Abel
DESCRIPTION:Chuck Abel Presents: Pictorally Speaking: Modern Holyoke Photographed Through a 125-Year-Old Lens \nPhotographer Charles Abel is bringing an exhibit to Wistariahurst Museum’s Gallery that shows visitors a view of Holyoke they’ve never seen before. Pictorally Speaking features cameras from Wistariahurst’s archive alongside photos Abel has taken of Holyoke. Abel captures views of modern-day Holyoke from a historical perspective- literally. \nAbout his process\, Abel says\, “I saw the 5×7 field camera\, and I knew that was the one. After cleaning the camera and testing it for light-leaks\, I made a few sample images to get a feel for the camera…In the end\, this series of photographs is a combination of modern documentary images taken in \nthe Pictorialist style with a 100-year-old camera and 125-year-old lens.” \nMuseum Director Megan Seiler looks forward to this exhibit\, saying\, “We get to look at the present through the past’s lens.” \nWistariahurst welcomes visitors to the opening reception of Pictorally Speaking on August 3rd\, 2026\, from 4:30-6:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be on view through September 8th\,  2026\, during open gallery hours\, Mondays\, 10:00 am-2:00 pm\, and Tuesdays\, 4:30-6:30 pm. \nAbout the Artist: \nCharles (Chuck) Abel is currently working as a Librarian at the Chicopee Public Library. \nHe also teaches a Photographic Archives class for Simmons University as an Adjunct \nProfessor. He plans to continue to photograph\, as he has done for the past 35 years\, Holyoke and the \nPioneer Valley. \nAbel also worked as a newspaper photographer for 25 years\, starting at the Holyoke Transcript and then the Springfield Newspapers. He was the Photo Editor for the Daily Hampshire Gazette for 10 years. Abel has an MFA in Photography from the University of Hartford and a Masters of Library and Information Science from Simmons University. \nThis program is funded in part by a grant from the Holyoke Local Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

SUMMARY:Music for Healing | Exhibition

SUMMARY:Skinner Servants' Room exhibit grand opening
DESCRIPTION:Bring the whole family for a fun-filled afternoon of learning and activities at the opening event for the Skinner Servants’ Room \nA new permanent exhibit is opening at Wistariahurst Museum just in time for back-to-school season! Bring the whole family for a fun-filled afternoon of learning and activities at the opening event for the Skinner Servants’ Room exhibit happening August 29th from 12:00-2:00 pm. Enjoy this new\, interactive exhibit\, meet real-life Skinner servants themselves (portrayed by museum volunteers)\, and even take a photo in front of a Model T car! \nThe Skinner Servants’ Room exhibit will put guests in the servants’ shoes as they learn what life was like for working-class people living in Holyoke. While it’s easy to imagine being wealthy and living in luxury during the late 19th and early 20th centuries\, most of us would have been part of the working class\, employed by people like the Skinner family either in their factories or in their home. The Skinner Servants’ Room shows visitors what life was like for those who worked for the Skinner family. Visitors will have the chance to perform some of the servants’ tasks\, learn about their daily lives\, and even dress up for their first shift as a Skinner servant. \nDuring the opening event\, guests can pose in front of a real Model T car for photos. Thank you to Wayne Klinge for donating his car for photo opportunities during this event. Wistariahurst volunteers portraying Skinner family servants will interact with guests and guide them through the new exhibit. Thai Food Place will also have their food truck at the opening event\, serving up delicious eats for museum guests. \n  \nWistariahurst welcomes visitors to the grand opening of the Skinner Servants’ Room exhibit on August 29th from 12:00-2:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public. After the opening\, this exhibit will be open by appointment or as listed on our website calendar.
