More Love | EP 3 Riobamba (NYC) and DEEJAY THEORY

July 12 @ 8:00 pm - 12:00 am

Join us for the third installment of our new global dance night exploring the past, present and future of dance music across a broadening spectrum of genres — from disco to dembow, afrobeats to amapiano — an expanding palette of sounds, beats, and languages.

Riobamba is a first-generation, Ecuadorian-Lithuanian sound artist, scholar, death doula, and cultural activist based in New York City. Her rowdy, deeply researched live sets reflect back nightlife’s power as a site of joy and resistance, amplifying connective tissues between  YouTube clips, bodega soundtracks, and noise hyperreality “suped up with a twisted, industrial gnarl” (Complex). The Fader has called her production work “a radically self-expressive piece of futurism that stands against a single, boxed-in definition of what Latinx club music can be.” She is founder of APOCALIPSIS, a record label that amplifies artists of the Global South and diaspora, and is intent on restructuring the music industry to center and pay BIPOC creators.

DEEJAY THEORY (ORIGINAL TING MUSIC, FACTION SOUND, MA), a New England native by way of San Francisco, Deejay Theory has been swimming in international musical waters for most of his adult life. While out West, he co-hosted the legendary club night TORMENTA TROPICAL, a decade-long dance party in SF’s Mission district. His in-demand DJ sets diffuse a multiplicity of genres with careful craftsmanship, exquisitely blended with near-zero turbulence and maximal groove.
