This Philadelphia trio – Chris Forsyth (guitar), Mikel Patrick Avery (percussion/electronics), and Douglas McCombs (Tortoise bassist!) – creates taut, hypnotic grooves that sound like “Bo Diddley with a chorus pedal” or “Yo La Tengo on a Congotronics bender”! Their polyrhythmic drum programming, interlocking guitars, and live electronic manipulation turn minimalism into pure maximalism through sheer repetitive power and ecstatic presence!
Fresh off their acclaimed debut “This Is BASIC” and with new EP “Dream City” droped March 7th, they’re proving that sometimes the most underground influences create the most forward-thinking sounds!
Watch these three masters of “friendly surveillance” lock into semi-improvised “fields” (not songs!) that shift and evolve with just a nod or glance – it’s musical telepathy in action!
For fans of genre-defying music that challenges and rewards, BASIC delivers an unforgettable live experience.
