Holyoke boasts a rich history marked by significant achievements and inventions. As one of the first planned industrial cities in the United States, Holyoke became a hub for innovation and progress during the 19th & 20th centuries and right into the 21st century. The muses depicted in the city hall’s 19th century-stained glass windows highlight the areas the founders valued: Liberty, Agriculture, Water Power, Commerce, Industry, Music and the Arts. Many of the city’s citizens and businesses have made tremendous contributions not only to our city, but also to our state, country and to the world.
