SUMMARY:JOEL SCHILLER - VISIONS OF THE 5TH BARDO
DESCRIPTION:Joel Schiller has no formal art training and has been painting for his own enjoyment for 50+ years.  Since retiring and moving to Columbia County\, New York  in 2011 he has had lots of time to  paint and think about painting.   “I have developed my own techniques which may not be what they teach in art school but they suit what I am trying to do.  I am intrigued by how chance events\, what tubes of paint you happen to have on hand\, your long-thought-out decisions and sudden inspirations about the next brushstroke\, all leave a record and when they dry are frozen and preserved.”  Joel was born in 1944.  This is his first solo exhibition\,

SUMMARY:Sensory Friendly Sunday Funday- February 2026
DESCRIPTION:Come down to Wistariahurst Museum to explore local history\, engage in sensory-friendly fun activities\, and discover new ways to have fun! \nWistariahurst Museum is delighted to welcome friends and families into our halls once a month for our Sensory Friendly Sunday Fundays! Discover the wonders of the first floor at Wistariahurst Museum and explore each captivating room\, beginning with the elegant marble lobby and continuing to the enchanting music room\, all while utilizing our informative guide pamphlets in English and Spanish. Throughout the first floor\, guests of all ages can interact with activities curated with our friends with sensory sensitivities in mind. Our music room will be filled with fun gross motor activities like hula hoops\, hopscotch\, and bounce balls that will get everyone hopping\, moving\, and excited. Throughout the first floor\, children will be able to interact with fine motor activities\, puzzles\, and board games to engage with and enjoy. \nThat’s not all! Staff are on the lookout for Winston the Wisty Lion and need your help! Winston is sleeping somewhere in our museum\, but we can’t find him! During your self-guided tour\, keep your eyes open for our lethargic\, little lion. When you find him\, don’t shout and wake him up! Take a picture or selfie with him and show your picture to our front desk attendant to get an exclusive Winston sticker! Want to have more fun with our lazy lion? Search for Winston’s clues to answer historical questions and learn more about the museum while you explore each of the rooms. Best of all\, there is no time limit to this scavenger hunt\, so all can enjoy this activity at their own pace. At the end of your hunt\, stop by the front desk to show your answers and win a fun prize! \nOur Sensory Friendly Sunday Fundays provide an excellent opportunity for families with sensory sensitivities to experience our museum in a relaxed environment at their own pace. Wistariahurst is thrilled to host these monthly open hours\, allowing families to explore\, discover\, and connect with our museum. This is why these events will be free and accessible to the public for all to enjoy.

SUMMARY:Nature’s Helping Hands - February School Vacation Week
DESCRIPTION:No school?  Bring the family to Holyoke Heritage State Park this week.  Investigate different ways in which plants and animals help us. Come one day or every day to learn how we cannot live without them.  All programs go from 10:30 – 12:00. There is something each day appropriate for elementary age students to adults. \nTuesday\, February 17:   Dogs – Our Best Friends\nLearn how dogs help people with disabilities and with emotional support. Give some love to a team of “Love on a Leash” therapy dogs. \nWednesday\, February 18:  Worms Make Great Soil\nLearn how to turn your food scraps into nutritious soil for your garden. See a vermiculture bin and meet some red wigglers. Take home some “worm juice” to fertilize your houseplants. \nThursday\, February 19:  Trees to the Rescue\nTrees cool hot cityscapes\, filter polluted air\, provide relaxing views\, slow runoff and more. Learn about superhero trees through crafts\, games\, tree walk and more. Find out how to get a tree planted in your yard for free this spring. Bundle up for the short walk outdoors. \nFriday\, February 20: Pollinators\, Plants and Food\nDo you like to eat? Many plants we enjoy depend on pollinators like bees\, butterflies\, bats or birds to propagate them. Learn about this important relationship\, then make some seed-embedded paper to take home to plant in your garden for those important pollinators. \nAll programs take place in the Visitor Center of Holyoke Heritage State Park. \nFree hot chocolate available every day! \nAs always\, programs are free and open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult. \nReservations requested by calling 413-534-1723 but not required. Large groups please call ahead. \n

SUMMARY:Glen David Andrews Band
DESCRIPTION:Join us at De la Luz on February 20 for a night that hits straight in the chest—Mardi Gras spirit\, New Orleans fire\, and Glen David Andrews leading the charge. The “Treme Prince” returns to Holyoke with a show that swings from deep-soul gospel to second-line brass thunder\, bringing the kind of high-voltage energy that turns a room into a parade. \nOur kitchen is rolling out a Louisiana-inspired menu for one night only—bold\, messy\, joyfully seasoned dishes that match the band’s pulse. Good food\, strong drinks\, and a band that refuses to hold anything back. \nGlen David Andrews\, a native son and beloved musician of New Orleans\, is a warrior for cultural preservation at a time when indigenous traditions are under pressure. His music reminds us that dance\, joy\, and collective celebration are not escape—they’re resistance. Every groove\, shout\, and horn line carries a history of people that we need to preserve together. \nHis commanding voice and fierce trombone sound are a blend of smoothness\, grit\, and raw emotion. Raised in Tremé—widely regarded as the oldest Black neighborhood in the United States—he comes from a lineage that includes Derrick Tabb of the Rebirth Brass Band and his cousin Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews\, and he learned the brass band tradition at the feet of icons like Tuba Fats. \nThis night is an all-ages\, full-on celebration.
