DESCRIPTION:Join the park interpreter for a 2-hour walk along Holyoke’s canal system. We explore engineering prowess\, mill operation\, historic visionaries\, and the power of water as we walk along parts of the first and second level canals of this fascinating planned industrial city. \nAlong the way we will see headraces\, tailraces\, intakes\, a Boyden Turbine assembly\, flywheels\, and get an eyeball tour of Holyoke Gas and Electric’s dam complex. Maps of the canal system are available. Distance: 2.0 miles. \nMeet at the Visitor Center. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Dress for the weather. Rain or extreme heat cancels. DESCRIPTION:Come to the Exhibition Hall in the Visitor Center to get an up-close and personal view of some of the little creatures that share our world.  Renee Hill’s exquisite macrophotography opens your eyes to the details of salamanders\, spiders\, grasshoppers and other creatures you may have never seen – even in your own backyard. \nThis free exhibit is accompanied by an art table for children\, and children-at-heart\, to color their own tiny creature to hang alongside the exhibit. \nOpen daily 12pm to 4pm until July 30. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a spicy evening of Creole cuisine\, Cajun waltzes and high-energy\, foot-stomping rhythms with Two-Time GRAMMY Award Winner\, Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. \nBorn on June 21\, 1970\, in Lafayette\, Louisiana\, Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. was immersed in zydeco and Creole music from a young age\, being the son of zydeco legend Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural\, Sr. He grew up just doors away from iconic zydeco figure Clifton Chenier\, absorbing the region’s vibrant musical traditions. \nAt 17\, Buckwheat Jr. began his musical journey by joining his father’s band\, initially playing the rubboard. Over time\, he became a skilled multi-instrumentalist\, mastering the accordion\, Hammond B-3 organ\, and more\, ultimately stepping into the role of frontman for the Ils Sont Partis Band\, a group founded by his father. \nBuckwheat’s career has included collaborations with musical legends like Eric Clapton\, Paul Simon\, Willie Nelson\, and Mavis Staples\, performing at prestigious events\, including two inaugural balls. His dynamic presence has been showcased on shows like The David Letterman Show and Good Morning America. \nBuckwheat has earned numerous accolades\, including two Grammy Awards\, an Emmy Award\, and multiple Grammy nominations. His 2024 album New Beginnings won Best Regional Roots Music Album at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards\, while he and the Ils Sont Partis Band received induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. \nFollowing the passing of his father in 2016\, Buckwheat Jr. continues to lead the Ils Sont Partis Band\, ensuring the legacy of zydeco music is carried forward with his son\, Kyle Anthony Dural\, performing alongside him. With over 2\,500 performances worldwide\, Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. remains a vital ambassador for zydeco\, blues\, and Louisiana’s rich musical heritage.
