SUMMARY:Free Growing Wild Pollinator Kit Give-away
DESCRIPTION:The Healey-Driscoll Administration is Celebrating National Pollinator Month and encouraging residents to take part in the movement to save pollinators by giving away free native plant starter kits at 24 nurseries and DCR parks throughout the month of June. \nThis annual effort is part of the Growing Wild program\, a joint effort led by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)\, the Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR)\, and the Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) aimed at promoting native species to support local ecosystems. This is the fifth consecutive year of Growing Wild. \nGrowing Wild is a movement to help preserve and protect native pollinators in Massachusetts by enhancing our landscapes to benefit pollinators and the environment. By providing free starter kits\, DCR\, MDAR & MNLA hope to encourage Massachusetts residents to help the environment and ecosystem by planting native plants. \nEach starter kit includes two one-gallon native perennial plants\, native seed packets\, and educational resources on pollinator-friendly gardening. Kits are available while supplies last. \nAll Massachusetts residents are encouraged to “Pledge Your Garden” and join the statewide pollinator map on mnla.com/growingwild.

SUMMARY:MOURNING [a] BLKSTAR
DESCRIPTION:MOURNING [a] BLKSTAR is a multi-generational\, non-gender and non-genre confirming collective from Cleveland\, Ohio. They meld live instrumentation with harmonizing vocals and hip-hop production to share stories and experiences of the African Diaspora. Their sets are rooted in communing with the audience — an experience that is solidarizing\, heart-warming\, and vital for this moment. \nThe group’s seven members include musicians\, writers\, and multimedia artists. Their intricate arrangements\, rooted in jazz\, blues\, soul\, r&b\, and hip-hop\, are an afrofuturist examination of our cultural paradoxes that at times challenge; at times uplift — and constantly moor themselves in both sincerity and defiance. \nshapeshifters of the black experience\n“Because we’re predominantly a Black band\, we get pigeonholed into certain spaces\,” says singer LaToya Kent. “People will think you just do one thing.” \nIn reality\, the band goes pretty much everywhere. With three deeply soulful vocalists and a horn section\, they “draw on everything from spacey Afrofuturistic jazz to uplifting gospel-like vocals to apocalyptic hip-hop beats\, all underscored by a lyrical commitment to social and racial justice and healing.” (Noah Schaffer\, Boston Globe)
