SUMMARY:Open Gallery Hours: MATRIA by Michelle Falcón Fontánez
DESCRIPTION:MATRIA is a photo series that uplifts the stories of five Puerto Rican women that have made significant contributions in Holyoke. These leaders have dedicated themselves to making positive change in our community through activism\, preserving history\, fighting for accessible education\, connecting community members with resources and engaging in volunteer work. \nThe community leaders featured in this project include: Gladys Lebrón-Martínez\, María Salgado-Cartagena\, Marisela Alvarado\, Marisol Fontánez Cuadrado\, and Yamaris Rivera. \nAfter its debut at Wistariahurst\, Matria will move in Spring 2025 to Holyoke’s Puerto Rican Cultural District on Main Street\, inviting an even broader audience to witness and celebrate these women’s journeys. You can view MATRIA by Michelle Falcón Fontánez on Mondays (10am-2pm) and Tuesdays (4:30pm-6:30pm) from January 13th through March 25th\, 2025. We encourage to join us in celebrating the stories of these amazing community members in Holyoke\, with admission being free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Open Gallery Hours: "Colors of Grief\," A Rick's Place Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Rick’s Place Honors Children’s Grief Awareness Month with “Colors of Grief”\, an art exhibit showcasing poignant artwork created by both youth and adult participants from Rick’s Place. \nRick’s Place\, a beacon of support for children\, teens\, and families navigating grief\, is proud to present a special gallery exhibit at the historic Wistariahurst Museum in Holyoke. Titled “Colors of Grief\,” artists were encouraged to reflect on their unique grief journeys and how these experiences have left an indelible mark. Each piece presented encapsulates an intimate\, heartfelt narrative of personal journeys through grief. \nRick’s Place aims to have this event serve a dual purpose: raising greater awareness about the profound impact of death\, grief\, and loss on youth and families\, and providing a platform for individuals to tell their stories through creative expression. With over 5\,000 children in Hampden County experiencing the loss of a parent or sibling\, Rick’s Place\, a non-profit organization\, extends its helping hand to youth between the ages of 5 and 18\, along with their caregivers\, who have confronted death. Peer support programs\, both on-site and in local schools\, help youth feel supported\, understood\, and less alone in their grief. \nWe cordially invite you to join us in celebrating these talented artists as they generously share their personal grief stories as we work towards broadening awareness of the profound impact that grief has on the lives of youth and their families. The Colors of Grief exhibit will be on display throughout February on Mondays (10am-2pm) and Tuesdays (4:30-6:30pm). To encourage everyone to see this touching exhibit\, both the opening reception and gallery hours are free and open to the public.
