Topography and the Connecticut River’s character gave rise to a prosperous city in late 19th and early 20th century. This illustrated presentation describes the origins of a planned industrial city and how water continues to power Holyoke. \nCome enjoy a presentation on the history of Holyoke inside the Visitor Center utilizing exhibits and visuals. All programs are free. DESCRIPTION:You don’t need leaves to identify trees.  This ¼ mile leisurely walk with the park interpreter helps you become a winter tree expert.  By recognizing bark\, buds\, and growth patterns of different species\, you can identify many trees at a glance – even in winter. \nDress for the weather. We will be stepping off the sidewalks so be prepared to walk in snow. Severe weather cancels. Programs are free and open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Meet at the Visitor Center. \nReservations requested (but not required) by calling 413-534-1723.
