SUMMARY:The Death of Lake Cahuilla Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Death of Lake Cahuilla is an immersive art exhibition delving into the transformation of Lake Cahuilla\, now the Salton Sea\, in California’s Imperial Valley. Through various mediums like painting\, digital art\, sculpture\, and multimedia installations\, it explores the impact of colonization and environmental degradation on the land and its indigenous communities. Using collages combining traditional and digital techniques with vintage materials\, the artist invites viewers to reflect on the historical and ecological layers of the region. The exhibition also celebrates indigenous resilience and aims to inspire action for cultural preservation and sustainable practices\, fostering awareness and positive change for a more sustainable future. \n  \nLa muerte del lago Cahuilla es una exposición de arte inmersiva que profundiza en la transformación del lago Cahuilla\, ahora Salton Sea\, en el Valle Imperial de California. SUMMARY:How the aztecs observed the days of the dead
DESCRIPTION:The 9th and 10th months of the Aztec calendar\, the Little Feast of the Dead\, and the Great Feast of the Dead\, were public spectacles of imperial power. These festivals\, at the main temple of Tenochtitlan\, the Aztec capital\, were also about state religion\, ritual sacrifice\, and promoted the never-ending warfare of the Aztec empire. \nThese ceremonies were also known to the Azteca as the Bestowal of Flowers\, and the Feast of the Old Fire God. There’s clearly much more to the Dia de Muertos than face painting and guacamole. \nUsing original source material\, I’ll explore the indigenous\, pre-Hispanic roots of what has become\, for Mexicans\, a magical and powerful commemoration and celebration of loved ones who have passed. \nJay Savage studied history of science at Harvard and Cornell and is a big fan of the theory of knowledge\, though much about the Aztecs can’t be known.
